The last few days have seen chaos in UG2 because of the choosing of the ITWS-III projects. With the portal supposed to be a first-come-first-serve basis, people were sweating out to be the winner in the Fastest Finger First 
. Initially the portal was supposed to open at 5PM on Tuesday but then got postponed to 7PM.
Then began the chaos. The portal had a major bug. The bug was basically this: When the list for projects was being displayed (or loaded) then the project availibilty was being checked and when someone clicked on Register button, it wasn’t. Now as people scampered to register their projects; some projects that were meant for two people got registered for eight.
One hour of a few modifications to the portal, and it was ready for the test soon. The way it was supposed to be first-come-first serve was misunderstood by me, I realised soon enough. The problem was this that if a project had two members, both had to register seperately. Now if one member submitted first, and then another person of the different team registerd the project would be assigned to both of them. This ended up with some people getting intersting project partners (No examples ).
The final resort: All the registrations were cancelled by the TA’s. I suggested to Siddharth that one way out would be to have only one person of a team register so as to ensure fairness of team partners. One night of changes and the portal was once again put through the test. I had thought that nobody should be having a problem now since everyone would get their projects (of course still on an FCFS basis, but now 5 projects were to be chosen with priority and you got the one with the highest priroity available).
Now, AFAIK (I was in my room sleeping during the third run, so I don’t know much 
), Fafat was the only one who had a problem with it and he sent this mail (when you are frustated you tend to blame others, don’t you? )
What the hell is going on in the portal.
Sunanda has registered with team members as xyz and abc.I have never seen these people in our batch.Has anyone else ?? Please inform me who these people are.I am interested in knowing them.
Nice sarcasm there, dude. Sunanda replied to him (not to UG2) saying that she had talked with Sunil Sir regarding it and had got permission from him. So Fafat replied back (to whole UG2)
Then probably we should all have variable partners to apply for alll the projects whose members vary from 1 to the maximum number of people available.
And please reply to ug2 , so that all are aware what is going on.

The next mail sent by him said that they were not informed about the changes made to the maximum number of people in the project and blamed the Portal team for that. I wonder if he even thought rationally about that. It is not something which the team decides; it is upto the professor offering the project. And the changes were added on the News section too, I guess. It was his problem if he didn’t read.
Since the ’spamming’ on UG2 list was increasing, the phpBB2 forum that had been created (for this purpose, I guess?). There four or five people started complaining on Fafat’s behalf (I suppose he went to their rooms to tell them to post for him) and again pointing about the fact that he wasn’t informed about the changes and since he was ill he could not see them. The portal was closed later in the night though. It was restarted again by Himanshu today who was really frustated because of people blaming him (I suppose it was again Fafat and 4-5 of his friends) and he made two consecutive posts:
It’s very sad to know people blaming the portal for not being able to get the appropriate project specially Mr. Vishnu or more appropriate to say only Vishnu . He is ill, not able to read updates but he becomes very active when it comes to writing mails and posting replies. It’s very sad to know that more you provide people with facility and more people dance on your heads . I wrote a mail to Vishnu and he copied the mail and posted it on forum, what is he trying to prove..??? . As it is I’m saying sorry and on top of that he is behaving this way. And whose fault is this, If you don’t read the updates. He is igniting the whole batch for a very cheap cause. I’m really hurt. Each and every information was provided on the updates section. Even the screenshots were send for people to make them comfortable. Each and every instruction was written so much in detail and still people complain about the malfunctioning about the portal. I’m going to take this matter very seriously.And who’s this mess_with_me, If you are so daring disclose your identity. Dr. Kamal rightly said that your batch doesn’t know how to use the resources and they shouldn’t be provided with them. This incident has really made me think over the situation that “Does Ug2k6 really rox…???” . We need to be sensible enough to know that whom to blame and for what. I hope these things are not repeated. But as far as things are concerned, I’m backing off from every thing that Ug2K6 organizes …….. First find fault with yourself and then complain ….

I don’t know what these people said to Himanshu, but guessing from his replies it seems they weren’t nice. My words to Himanshu, “Don’t listen to these suckers. You are the best person there is to represent our batch. Let them suckers speak whatever they want.”
One last thing about this mess, before I move on to my real motive behind starting this post. A message to Fafat: “You yourself did a project in the summer. Did you debug it properly? Or did you even bother to complete it fully? If you didn’t, then you have no right to blame him like that. And if you did, you should know that there can be bugs anywhere.”
My real motive behind this post was something I’ve wanted to blog about for a long time, but could not get the inspiration was “Is UG2k6 really united?” We keep on chanting chants like “UG2k6 rocks”, thinking about batch t-shirts, but are those things that make us united? I don’t think so.
Maybe the so called blamers or pessimists may take a bit or two of lessons from this and started minding their own damn businesses before saying anything about others who really do the work.

PS2: Mr. Bhaskar Prasad has said that WLAN should be there in OBH-EB maximum by 15th of September. Lets see. (It is one of the places where UG2k6 should be united, but it isn’t. People can only complain you see. Not get their asses off and talk to the people concerned).
